Drumsagard In Bloom

Do you think you have a 'bloomin' lovely garden?

Spring is here and summers not far away and we’re looking forward to see lots of beautiful front gardens and floral displays again this year.

Following the success of Burnside’s garden initiative we hope to trial a similar venture. Our aim is to create a group of like-minded people who will take an interest in planting baskets and helping with small landscaping projects. It won’t take up a lot of time and the fruits of your labour will be very rewarding to you and the community. If you are interested in joining this group please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

In the meantime to launch Drumsagard In Bloom we are holding our inaugural Drumsagard In Bloom contest which will be open to all Drumsagard Village residents. We will have four categories with a prize up for grabs in each.

  1. Best Front Garden
  2. Best Improved Garden
  3. Best hanging baskets or planters
  4. Largest Sunflower (Under 12 entry only)

The Greenbelt Group have kindly donated prizes and alongside the Cambuslang Allotment Group will hopefully be judging your displays. If you wish to enter your garden or sunflower into the contest fill out the application form below.

We will be judging your entries from the middle of July and the judges decision will be final, all entrants will be contacted nearer the time to ask for a photo of your Garden. (If you are entering the most improved front garden please have a picture of before ready)

Landscaping

Drumsagard has three different types of landscaping which is maintained by different bodies.

  1. The first one is play areas and open spaces which when the development was first built each builder appointed a Factor to oversee the maintenance and enforcement of the Deeds of conditions and is paid for by the residents of each different house development within Drumsagard.
  2. The second is certain roadside grass verges which are on Hallside Boulevard and Village Road which is maintained by SLC Land Services they are also responsible for emptying the waste bins and litter picking on Hallside Boulevard and Village Road.
  3. The third and the biggest is the responsibility of the Greenbelt Group. The areas they cover are as follows, The Woodland Area along Village Road on both sides, all the Roundabouts, some of the areas of shrubs on Hallside Boulevard and the Drumsagard Castle site next to Elder Crescent as well as the amenity strips which divide some of the housing developments within Drumsagard. Please bear in mind if you pay Greenbelt as your factor these specific areas are not covered in your factors fees, these are paid from the interest generated from a bond set up by H J Banks when the development was first created so the amount of work carried out by Greenbelt in these area is constrained to the amount of revenue generated by this bond.

The google map below indicates the areas each body is responsible for,

We as an Association have worked hard over the years with all the different bodies involved to improve the standard of landscaping within the development and although we have been successful at times it is always an on-going issue. We have seen an improvement over the years and continue to get improvements through building up and improving relationships with the different parties involved.

Dog Fouling

Dog fouling is a despicable crime blighting the whole of South Lanarkshire. The selfishness of a few dog owners is affecting the reputation of the majority of owners who faithfully pick up their dogs mess.

In Drumsagard we have received excellent co-operation from SLC Land Services who have agreed to increase the number of bins in our development. All of these bins will be suitable for dog mess so there can be no excuse.

South Lanarkshire Council have signed up to a Keep Scotland Beautiful campaign called Clean Up Scotland and will soon roll out a number of initiatives designed to tackle the dog fouling problem that is blighting our neighbourhoods.

They have increased the number of Technical Assistants (formerly dog wardens ) to 5 which will enable them to tackle more areas on request.

These notices will soon appear in problem areas and it is hoped the number provided will be well used until this dirty practice is well and truly stopped in Drumsagard.

If you spot dog owners failing to pick up there dogs mess please record the time and place then either report it to South Lanarkshire Council through there website or use fix my street by clicking on the link
