What to Do

If you witness or experience an incident in the community, it's important to report it through the proper channels. Follow these steps to ensure incidents are handled effectively.

Emergency? Call 999

For emergencies requiring immediate police, fire, or ambulance services, always dial 999.

An emergency is when someone is injured, being threatened, or in immediate danger.

Step 1: Report to Authorities

First, report the incident to the relevant local authority:

Police (Non-Emergency)

101

For non-urgent incidents that require police attention

South Lanarkshire Council

For issues like graffiti, fly-tipping, street lighting, or other council matters

Local Councillor

For community concerns that need political attention or action

Emergency Services

999

For immediate danger or emergencies

Step 2: Log with Neighbourhood Watch

After reporting to the relevant authorities, please email the incident details to:

neighbourhoodwatch@drumsagardvillage.co.uk

This helps our coordinators track patterns and work with authorities on persistent issues.

Example: Reporting Graffiti

Scenario

"A young man has been seen carrying out graffiti in the area"

Recommended Response:

  1. Contact police via 101 to report the vandalism
  2. Report the graffiti to South Lanarkshire Council for removal
  3. Email neighbourhoodwatch@drumsagardvillage.co.uk to log the incident

Coordinator Follow-up:

Our coordinator will check on graffiti removal and, if incidents recur, engage with police and councillors to help prevent future occurrences.

Why This Process?

By reporting to authorities first and then logging with Neighbourhood Watch, we ensure incidents are handled properly while also building a community record. This helps us identify patterns, work with authorities on recurring issues, and keep our community informed and safe.
